Life was great. There was everything to be positive about for Pixie Martinez. She was attending Yale and studying drama and that for her was the highlight of her life. It was a rather warm afternoon and Pixie refused to spend it indoors. She wanted to be out and about and the grounds of the house seemed the perfect place. Outside and yet convenient enough if she wanted anything. Grabbing a book from her bedside and headed out of the house.
Pix padded barefoot across the lawns. The lush green grass tickled the soles of her feet but that was her punishment for not wearing shoes. Soon she had completed her journey to the deck chairs. She pulled the sunglasses down off the top of her head messing her dark locks slightly. Pixie carefully positioned herself on the chair before opening her book entitled ‘The Merchant of Venice’. One they were currently being asked to read for class. Of course Pix was all too happy to do so. Shakespeare was her favourite playwright.
Flicking through the pages that rustled in the silence she found the page she was looking for. Portia’s mercy speech.
“The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven, upon the place beneath. It is twice blessed.” Pixie began to speak the words. Her voice was gentle and yet had the command and strength to reach across the whole yard. Some of the other girls got sick of her prattling on constantly but it was her passion and alone she was free to act to her heart’s content.

It wasn’t the first time Joey had spent the night at her boyfriend’s. his roommate wasn’t particularly excited about having to sleep in a different room so that Joey could crash there, but he had gotten used to that by now. She got up and grabbed her stuff, sliding on her jeans and tank top, and quickly putting on her sneakers before kissing her –still sleeping- boyfriend goodbye and climbing out his window to make her way down through the fire exit.
She wasn’t fond of the walk of shame, though it hardly could be considered a walk of shame if she had done a million times over, and if she was coming out of her boyfriend’s room instead of some stranger’s. but still, she and the boys from his frat had a great relationship, she was friends with them all, which meant they make fun of her til she died if they caught her coming out of his room the morning after.
She was hoping to not get made fun of by anyone, so she ran around the house to go inside through the back door, and the second she went inside the house’s backyard, she spotted Pixie there, reading out loud, probably practicing for a play or something, since she was a drama student. Joey was happy it was Pixie out there, they had been great friends since they met. She made her way over to where her friend was sitting and raised her arms smiling wide. ”GOOD MORNING!” she shouted, happily.
